Director of Services
My name is Arnulfo González and I am the founder and Director of Services for Paso a Paso Inc. since August 2003. I have been working with people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities for 22 years since July 1991. My first opportunity came to me when I was hired to work as direct care staff at the Corpus Christi State School in 1991. My ignorance and lack of experience in working in this field almost caused me to resign the following day after having heard so many stories about working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I now thank God for having me placed in this path and for using me as an instrument to help those who cannot help themselves. My experience as direct care staff is what I treasure the most. Serving in this capacity taught me so many things about life and about me as a person. I learned that despite any disability we might have, we are human and we have feelings and we like to be treated with dignity and respect. I learned that I needed to treat those I was serving, the same way I would want to be treated if I was in their situation. While working at the state school, I was provided with opportunities to better serve my consumers. I worked as direct care staff for approximately 3 years and then was presented with the opportunity to work as QMRP (Qualified Mental Retardation Professional) for 3 years and also served as Associate Clinical Psychologist for 2 years.
I moved to Dallas, Texas in 1999 and came to work for an HCS (Home and Community Based Services) Provider as a case manager for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I worked for this agency for 4 years. I appreciate this agency so much as it is part of my foundation and who I am today. While working for this agency I also worked for DARS which used to be TRC (Texas Rehabilitation Commission) which is a state agency that helps people with disabilities find gainful employment. While working for TRC as a Vocation Rehabilitation Counselor, I was assigned to all the cases of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, which included all school age kids as well as all bilingual people.
One night in 2003, God woke me up at 3:00 am with the idea of forming my own HCS agency and this is how Paso a Paso Inc. came into existence in August 2003.

Hi! Welcome to Paso a Paso website. I am Héctor Contreras, Director of Operations and co-owner since 2003. My highest degree of education is Master"s of Arts in Spanish obtained at Texas A&M University in Kingsville.
I worked in the education field for 15 years teaching the Spanish class to grades ranging from kindergarten to university level. On the personal side I love dancing, traveling and watching movies. As Director of Operations it is my responsibility to assure all everyday bussines run smoothly and all concerns are given a follow up as required.
